Try this:
www.domain.com/subdirectory/

The / after the name of the subdirectory is important. Once you have the right syntax for meta-medic to read your tags, the search engines should find you too. If this does not work you may need to do this:

www.domain.com/subdirectory/subdirectory

Where the same subdirectory is redundently specified. you may even need to have a / at the end.
The whys of this strategy illude me, but it has worked.
