What can I do to get listed on the search engines?

First I have to say I am a complete novice at creating web pages! i don't know META from pita!I have created my own web site using AOLPRESS.I submitted my site to 15 different search engines a year ago. I can only find it on 3 or 4. In particular, I cannot get on Yahoo. I have submitted to them several times. Could someone take a look at my pages and give me some tips? Thansk, Ann
