Here is a general rule of thumb: photographs should be saved as JPEGs, and graphics should be saved as GIFs. JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group , while GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format.

Another way to look at this is this: images with many different colors (such as photographs) should be saved as JPEGs. Images with only a few colors (such as graphics, buttons, backgrounds, etc.) should be saved as GIFs.

I was able to reduce your file size to 52 KB just by saving it as a JPEG which is best optimized for photographs. When it doubt, experiment, and use the format that produces the smallest file size. Using the wrong file type will actually produce a BIGGER file.

Good luck!
