It is the official website of the British Tourist Authority

You may have read about it in some Internet magazines, I believe that it has won (amongst others) Best commercial use of the Internet, Best Commercial site and best Tourism site.

Now for the bad news.... The layout was designed using Frontpage.
I probably don't expect it to pass your standards test either.

Then look at the stats.. It got 914,000 page views in December, from 148,000 visitors. I'm sure they didn't care what the HTML looked like, as long as the site did what they wanted it to do and provided them with the information they where after quickly.

If you think that people are going to come to a website, open the source up - say "Oooh that's good quality HTML that is I think I'll buy from these people" then think again.
