There are two ways UK users are likely to end up at a .co.uk variant:

a) By following a link from the main .com site (which makes .co.uk
redundant promotion-wise) or

b) If they've seen some offline advertising in a magazine, billboard etc.
again, this has no bearing on search engine promotion.

In general, I'd say only a small percentage will bother to go to .co.uk
Personally, I never bother with it, I always stick to .com because it's
easier to remember.

I've never registered deadlock.co.uk because I realised the futility
of targeting a regional location early on.

Dunno, I stopped keeping logs a while ago because even the filtered
stats were gobbling up disk space :)
