Naturally this won't work on alltheweb.com, which only accepts root URLs. Of course you'll also want links within the frames that snap visitors back to your main index page, so that they can start enjoying all the frames. These things are all true. Yet life is so complicated already. Why add frames? (I *have* seen frames used superbly on sites that neither need nor want search engine traffic. But these are niche sites.)
