Search engines can give some businesses a VERY large boost in revenue.
One company I work for had a revenue increase of almost 1,000,000 dollars (or 10% of their annual revenue).

Another company I work for generates 50% of all its sales off the web.

My thoughts; As the web becomes more and more of a daily necessity, then more and more traffic will come through search engines. But it does take some work to stay on top of the game.
